Established in 2005, Purple Feet Wine Boutique and Tasting Room is “all in the name of Wine”, offering over 70 wines by the glass and over 600 wines by the bottle. Wieland Acoustics was hired to provide consulting services regarding the room acoustics within the public portion of Purple Feet – essentially a single large room (approximately 28,000 cubic feet) which incorporates a bar area, a lounge area, and a retail area.
Reverberation measurements were obtained throughout the space to identify existing sound absorptive characteristics at 1/3-octave frequency bands. The client was interviewed to provide qualitative input on the nature of the perceived acoustical issues within the space. It quickly became apparent that the space lacked adequate sound absorption. Nearly all the surfaces and finishes within Purple Feet consisted of acoustically hard materials – stone tile, concrete, glass, painted gypsum board, wood and metal.
Wieland Acoustics was able to recommend a combination of sound absorptive materials designed to improve the room acoustics by adding appropriate amounts of absorption across the frequency spectrum of concern without negatively impacting the aesthetics or operations of the business – considerations that were of great importance to the client.
